Academic Profile

Dr. Gregory B. Seymann graduated from the UCLA School of Medicine in 1994 and completed his internal medicine residency at UCSD in 1997. He has been a hospitalist at UCSD since 1998.

He is a member of the ORYX Core Measures Workgroup and the Patient Safety Committee. He has been involved in the development and teaching of the Division's "Value Improves Quality" curriculum.

Within the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM), he currently chairs the Performance Measurement Review Committee (PMRC). The current efforts of the PMRC focus on ensuring the interests of hospitalists are adequately represented as value-based purchasing legislation is implemented. As a member of the SHM's Academic Committee, he completed a collaborative project exploring structure and functional attributes of successful academic hospital medicine programs, in an attempt to identify best practices for leaders in the field.

Dr. Seymann has received teaching awards from the graduating housestaff as well as from the Medicine 401 clerkship. He has been recognized on multiple occasions by San Diego Magazine as one of San Diego's "Top Doctors."

His special interests include community-acquired and healthcare-associated pneumonia, performance measurement for hospitals and physicians, systems-based quality improvement, and improving the patient experience.
